Bishop Schol read this resolution at the Saturday evening banquet at the GUMCD.  Many thanks to Rev. Tom Hudspeth for his help in getting this passed:

A Resolution from the North Texas Annual Conference

WHEREAS it is a cause for celebration that the United Methodist Congress of the Deaf is hosting an international gathering of persons who are deaf, late deafened, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind, and

WHEREAS there will be evident joy at signing and sharing the stories of Christ’s work around the world among those who are deaf and who share United Methodist or Wesleyan connections, and

WHEREAS over ninety percent of the deaf community in North America are reported to be unchurched, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED that the 139th Session of the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, Bishop Rhymes H. Moncure, Jr., presiding, sends love, prayers, and encouragement to this historic gathering of the United Methodist Congress of the Deaf, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we call upon the Holy Spirit to inspire a movement of outreach among United Methodists everywhere to persons who are deaf, late deafened, hard of hearing, or deaf-blind.
